HR Officer

Location: St Albans, Hertfordshire, England

£25k - 30k per year + Benefits

Newstaff Employment Services are recruiting for an HR Officer / HR Advisor to join a successful and very friendly company based in St Albans. 

This role reports to the Head Of HR and would ideally suit an enthusiastic person with some HR experience, who is keen to learn and develop their career in Human Resources. 

Experience required

  • Minimum of 2 years HR Officer/Advisor experience gained within an accountancy or financial environment would be ideal. 


  • Ideally CIPD Qualified (Associate Level or equivalent) or working towards completion of qualification.

The Person:

  • The successful candidate must have a positive, can-do and people-centric approach. IT literacy is key and ideally you will be adept in the use of PeopleHR and psychometrics.


The role requires travel to the other offices in Milton Keynes, Rickmansworth and London on a weekly basis.

Expenses will be paid for travel to offices other than St Albans.  Car owner is essential.  

Main Duties to include:

  • Recruitment of employees (mainly admin/support level and more recently qualified professional employees), including putting job specifications/adverts together, considering appropriate recruitment methods and loading them successfully onto our recruitment portal.
  • Relationship-building with key recruitment agencies, negotiating fees/terms etc.
  • Reporting daily on all activity to the Head of HR, including updating the employees situation report on a regular basis
  • Assisting with graduate trainee/apprentice recruitment.  This role will help ensure that all the assessment days are coordinated properly, creating shortlists and meaningful reports.  Carrying out telephone interviews and being involved with the assessment days.
  • Dealing sensitively with Employee Relations issues, including managing all requests for maternity, paternity, shared parental leave and flexible working.
  • Becoming a super-user on our HR system (People HR) and being fundamental in implementing new functionalities
  • Carrying out employees’ inductions
  • Carrying out / working with managers on 3- & 6-month employee reviews, considering whether employees have successfully completed their probation period and identifying development/training needs
  • Monthly sickness & holiday reconciliations
  • Conducting exit Interviews and providing feedback to the Head of HR
  • Assisting with monthly payroll
  • Ensuring the website, intranet & Facebook are kept up to date (e.g. policies, vacancies and announcements)

IT:  MS Office, PeopleHR, VPM

Salary:  £25,000 pa to £30,000 pa + excellent benefits. 23 days holiday, pension, Life Assurance 4x salary

Flexible Working Hours:  Between 08.00-18.30, working 7.5 hours a day within these hours. Core hours are between 9am- 17.30.
