Assistant Solicitor (Private Client) – Northampton

Newstaff Employment is hiring an Assistant Solicitor to join a busy and successful Private Client department on behalf of our client in Northampton. In this role, you will manage your own caseload of private client matters while providing high-quality legal advice and excellent client service. Therefore, this is an excellent opportunity for a qualified legal professional looking to develop their career within a progressive and well-established law firm.

Salary: Up to £75,000 per annum (depending on PQE) plus benefits
Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a full caseload of private client matters from instruction through to completion
  • Prepare and advise clients on Wills and estate planning
  • Handle Probate and estate administration matters
  • Prepare and register Lasting Powers of Attorney
  • Draft legal documents accurately and efficiently
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and professional contacts
  • Keep accurate case records using the firm’s case management system
  • Deliver an excellent standard of client care at all times
  • Support the continued growth of the Private Client department where appropriate

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Qualified Solicitor (NQ to 5 years PQE), Chartered Legal Executive, or experienced Private Client Fee Earner
  • Proven experience managing a broad private client caseload
  • Strong technical knowledge of Wills, Probate, and estate administration
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Confident dealing directly with clients and third parties
  • Commercially aware with a proactive approach
  • IT literate with the ability to learn and use case management systems
  • Strong organisational and time management skills

Desirable Skills

  • STEP qualification or currently working towards STEP
  • Experience of trusts and complex estate planning
  • Marketing and business development experience
  • Networking skills and the ability to contribute to departmental growth
  • Previous supervisory or mentoring experience
