Newstaff Employment is recruiting an experienced Construction Buyer on behalf of a successful and growing construction business based in Luton. You will manage the procurement of materials, tools, equipment, and services, ensuring projects receive the right products at the right time while maintaining quality standards and controlling costs.

Location: Luton
Salary: £40,000 – £55,000+ per annum, negotiable depending on experience
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Job Type: Full-time / Permanent

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the purchasing process for construction materials, tools, equipment, and services.
• Source and evaluate potential suppliers based on price, quality, reliability, and delivery performance.
• Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts with suppliers to achieve competitive purchasing agreements.
• Work closely with project managers to understand material requirements, specifications, and project schedules.
• Place purchase orders accurately and monitor them through to delivery.
• Coordinate the timely delivery of materials to construction sites to support project schedules.
• Monitor market trends, material prices, availability, and supplier performance.
• Maintain accurate records of purchases, pricing, supplier details, and procurement activity.
• Develop and maintain strong working relationships with suppliers and subcontractors.
• Identify opportunities to reduce procurement costs while maintaining required quality standards.
• Resolve delivery issues, pricing discrepancies, shortages, and other procurement-related problems.
• Review procurement processes and procedures to improve efficiency and cost control.
• Ensure purchasing activities comply with company policies and project requirements.
• Support project teams with procurement planning throughout the project lifecycle.

Essential Skills & Experience

• You have proven experience as a Buyer, Construction Buyer, Procurement Specialist, or within a similar construction procurement role.
• You have a strong understanding of construction materials, pricing, suppliers, and procurement processes.
• You demonstrate strong negotiation and commercial skills.
• You have excellent organisational and time-management abilities.
• You can manage multiple orders, suppliers, projects, and deadlines simultaneously.
• You have strong analytical skills and can make commercially informed purchasing decisions.
• You have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• You are confident using Microsoft Office and relevant procurement software.
• You have strong attention to detail and can maintain accurate purchasing records.
• You can work effectively both independently and as part of a wider construction project team.
