Construction Quantity Surveyor / Estimator – Luton
Newstaff Employment is recruiting an experienced Construction Quantity Surveyor / Estimator on behalf of a successful and growing construction business based in Luton. You will manage project costs, prepare accurate estimates, control budgets, and work closely with project managers, clients, subcontractors, and suppliers to support the successful delivery of construction projects.
Location: Luton
Salary: £60,000 – £80,000+ per annum, negotiable depending on experience
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm

Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed cost estimates and budgets for a range of construction projects.
- Review and interpret project drawings, specifications, plans, and contractual documentation.
- Complete accurate quantity take-offs and cost analysis for labour and materials.
- Manage and monitor project budgets throughout the project lifecycle.
- Work closely with project managers, clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Identify potential commercial and financial risks and develop appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising project quality.
- Negotiate with subcontractors and suppliers to secure competitive pricing and commercial terms.
- Prepare and maintain accurate records relating to project costs, estimates, variations, and contract changes.
- Monitor the financial performance of projects and report on budget variances.
- Support the commercial management of projects from initial estimation through to completion.
- Ensure work complies with relevant contractual obligations and construction regulations.
- Keep up to date with construction costs, materials, industry developments, and relevant regulations.
Essential Skills & Experience
- You have previous construction industry experience as a Quantity Surveyor, Estimator, or within a similar commercial role.
- You have a strong understanding of construction processes, methods, and materials.
- You have experience preparing construction estimates, budgets, and cost plans.
- You can complete quantity take-offs and accurately analyse labour and material costs.
- You have excellent numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- You demonstrate strong commercial awareness and attention to detail.
- You have strong negotiation and communication skills.
- You can manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines effectively.
- You are confident using Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Experience using quantity surveying or construction estimating software would be advantageous.
- Knowledge of construction contracts, contract law, and relevant regulations would be beneficial.
