Field-Based Service Engineer – Hertfordshire

Newstaff Employment is recruiting a multi-skilled Field-Based Service Engineer to carry out planned maintenance, reactive callouts, and small works across fire and security systems. You will work across Hertfordshire, the Home Counties, and North London, servicing fire alarms, emergency lighting, CCTV, intruder alarms, and access control systems.

Location: Field-based – Hertfordshire, Home Counties and North London
Salary: £35,000 – £40,000 per annum
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 am – 5:30 pm, plus on-call rota and overtime opportunities
Job Type: Full-time / Permanent

Key Responsibilities

• Service and maintain fire alarm and security systems.
• Carry out planned preventative maintenance and reactive callouts.
• Diagnose faults and complete repairs efficiently.
• Maintain fire alarm, emergency lighting, CCTV, intruder alarm, and access control systems.
• Complete small works and system improvements when required.
• Liaise closely with the service team to support effective scheduling and completion of works.
• Complete accurate service reports and other required documentation.
• Ensure all work complies with relevant health and safety legislation, company policies, and safe working practices.
• Provide a professional service when working at customer sites.
• Participate in the out-of-hours standby and call-out rota.
• Maintain the company vehicle and equipment to a professional standard.
• Travel throughout Hertfordshire, the Home Counties, and North London, with occasional national travel and overnight stays when required.
• Complete additional duties as required to support the service team.

Essential Skills & Experience

• You have proven experience servicing and maintaining both fire alarm and security systems.
• You have strong knowledge of fire alarm systems and BS 5839.
• You hold Fire Industry Association (FIA) qualifications or equivalent.
• You have experience maintaining emergency lighting systems.
• You have an electrical background or relevant electrical qualifications.
• You demonstrate excellent fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
• You have strong communication and customer service skills.
• You can work independently and manage your own workload effectively.
• You have a good understanding of health and safety requirements.
• You hold a full UK driving licence.
• You are flexible and willing to travel nationally and complete occasional overnight stays.
• Ideally, you have at least five years’ experience within the Fire & Security industry.
• Knowledge of integrated security systems would be advantageous.
• ECS, CSCS and/or IPAF certification would be beneficial.
• Fire Extinguisher training would also be desirable.
