Newstaff Employment is currently recruiting an experienced HGV Class 2 Driver for a well-established transport and distribution company based in Great Barford, Bedfordshire. This HGV Class 2 (Category C) driving role involves operating flatbed vehicles, completing deliveries, and ensuring goods are transported safely and efficiently. You will carry out daily vehicle safety checks, provide professional customer service, and follow scheduled delivery routes. This is an ongoing, full-time opportunity with the potential to secure permanent employment, earning £38,000–£40,000 per annum once permanent.

Location: Great Barford, Bedford, Bedfordshire
Salary: £17.00–£18.50 per hour (agency) / £38,000–£40,000 per annum (permanent)
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 5:00 am–6:00 am starts
Average Shift Length: Approximately 10.5 hours

Key Responsibilities

• Drive HGV Class 2 (Category C) flatbed vehicles safely and professionally.
• Complete scheduled deliveries to customers.
• Transport goods securely and efficiently.
• Follow planned delivery routes and schedules.
• Ensure goods are delivered safely and on time.
• Check that loads are secure before starting each journey.
• Follow appropriate load restraint and transport safety procedures.
• Carry out daily vehicle safety inspections.
• Report vehicle defects or maintenance issues promptly.
• Complete delivery paperwork and transport documentation accurately.
• Maintain accurate tachograph and driving records.
• Follow UK Drivers’ Hours and Working Time regulations.
• Comply with road traffic and transport legislation.
• Communicate professionally with customers and transport teams.
• Provide excellent customer service during deliveries.
• Follow company health and safety procedures.
• Maintain a professional and safety-focused approach to driving.

Essential Skills & Experience

• You hold a valid HGV Class 2 (Category C) driving licence.
• You hold a valid Driver CPC qualification.
• You hold a valid Digital Tachograph Card.
• You have previous HGV Class 2 driving experience.
• You understand UK Drivers’ Hours and tachograph regulations.
• You have a safe and responsible approach to driving.
• You can complete daily vehicle safety checks.
• You are comfortable with early morning starts.
• You can follow delivery routes and schedules accurately.
• You have good communication and customer service skills.
• You are reliable, punctual and hardworking.
• You can work independently throughout the day.
• You have a positive and professional attitude.
• You are looking for an ongoing, full-time driving opportunity.

Previous experience operating HGV flatbed vehicles would be advantageous but is not essential.

An IPAF licence would also be beneficial. However, the company is willing to provide IPAF training and upskilling for the right candidate.
