HGV Class 2 Refuse Driver – Stevenage

Newstaff Employment is recruiting an experienced HGV Class 2 Refuse Driver for waste and recycling collection work in Stevenage. You will drive a Class 2 refuse vehicle on designated collection routes and collect residential and commercial waste. You will also work closely with refuse loaders to complete collections safely and on time.

Salary: £17.50 per hour
Working Hours: Early mornings and varied shifts

Key Responsibilities

• Drive HGV Class 2 refuse vehicles safely and professionally.
• Follow designated refuse and recycling collection routes.
• Collect and transport residential and commercial waste.
• Work closely with refuse loaders throughout each shift.
• Complete waste and recycling collections efficiently.
• Assist with manual handling duties when required.
• Carry out vehicle safety checks before and after each shift.
• Report vehicle defects or maintenance issues promptly.
• Maintain accurate collection and mileage records.
• Follow UK road traffic and transport regulations.
• Comply with Drivers’ Hours and Working Time rules where applicable.
• Follow waste management and health and safety procedures.
• Communicate professionally with residents and businesses.
• Keep the vehicle and working areas safe and tidy.

Essential Skills & Experience

• You hold a valid HGV Class 2 (Category C) driving licence.
• You have previous HGV Class 2 driving experience.
• Previous refuse, waste, or recycling collection experience would be advantageous.
• You have a safe and professional approach to driving.
• You understand relevant road safety and transport regulations.
• You have a good understanding of health and safety procedures.
• You can work effectively as part of a refuse collection team.
• You are comfortable completing manual handling duties.
• You have a good level of physical fitness.
• You are reliable, punctual, and hardworking.
• You have good communication and customer service skills.
• You are comfortable working outdoors in different weather conditions.
• You are flexible and able to work early morning starts and varied shifts.
