Newstaff Employment is currently recruiting HGV2 Refuse Drivers for ongoing waste collection work in Watford, Hertfordshire. We are seeking reliable and hardworking drivers to operate HGV Class 2 refuse collection vehicles, completing residential and commercial waste collections across designated routes. This hands-on driving position involves working closely with refuse loaders, maintaining vehicle safety and assisting with collections when required. The opportunity is ideal for experienced HGV2 drivers who enjoy working outdoors and want regular work within a supportive waste management team.

Salary: £17.00–£21.00 per hour
Working Hours: Monday to Friday opportunities

Key Responsibilities

• Drive HGV Class 2 refuse collection vehicles safely and responsibly.
• Complete scheduled residential and commercial waste collections.
• Follow designated collection routes throughout Watford and surrounding areas.
• Work alongside refuse loaders to ensure collections are completed efficiently.
• Assist with loading and waste collection duties when required.
• Carry out daily vehicle walkaround inspections before starting work.
• Check vehicle safety equipment and report any defects promptly.
• Operate the refuse collection vehicle in accordance with company procedures.
• Ensure safe vehicle positioning during roadside waste collections.
• Maintain awareness of pedestrians, cyclists and other road users.
• Follow road traffic laws and commercial driving regulations.
• Comply with drivers’ hours and working time requirements.
• Maintain accurate vehicle inspection and driving records.
• Follow appropriate procedures when handling waste and collection equipment.
• Report missed collections, access difficulties or operational issues.
• Communicate effectively with refuse loaders, supervisors and depot staff.
• Maintain professional standards when working in residential and commercial areas.
• Follow manual handling procedures when assisting with loading duties.
• Wear appropriate personal protective equipment when required.
• Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
• Follow company health and safety procedures throughout each shift.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Valid UK HGV Class 2 (Category C) driving licence.
• Valid Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC).
• Valid Digital Tachograph Card.
• Good understanding of UK road traffic laws and commercial vehicle regulations.
• Knowledge of drivers’ hours and working time requirements.
• Confidence operating HGV Class 2 vehicles safely.
• Ability to complete daily vehicle safety checks.
• Good awareness of road safety, particularly in residential areas.
• Ability to follow designated collection routes and daily schedules.
• Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Willingness to assist with refuse loading and manual handling duties when required.
• Ability to work effectively alongside refuse loaders and other team members.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• A responsible approach to vehicle safety and defect reporting.
• Ability to maintain professional standards when working in public areas.
• Good timekeeping and organisational skills.
• A reliable, punctual and hardworking attitude.
• Commitment to maintaining high standards of health and safety.

Previous experience driving refuse collection vehicles would be advantageous but is not essential.

Candidates with previous HGV Class 2 experience in waste management, recycling, local authority collections or similar driving environments are particularly encouraged to apply.
