Junior Estimator (Construction) – Luton

Newstaff Employment is hiring a motivated Junior Estimator (Construction) in Luton to join a growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to start or develop a career in construction estimating while gaining hands-on experience from senior industry professionals.

Location: Luton
Salary: £28,000 to £35,000 per year (negotiable depending on experience)
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

Key Responsibilities

• Review project drawings, specifications, and tender documents to support accurate pricing.
• Assist with preparing detailed cost estimates for construction projects.
• Help calculate labour, materials, plant, and time requirements.
• Support senior estimators with value engineering and cost-saving exercises.
• Prepare quantity take-offs and pricing comparisons.
• Request and review supplier and subcontractor quotations.
• Attend meetings with contractors, suppliers, and internal teams when required.
• Maintain organised records of estimates, costs, and project data.
• Learn to use estimating software and internal systems effectively.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related subject, or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong numerical skills with a keen interest in estimating.
• Basic understanding of construction methods, materials, and processes.
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
• Estimating software experience would be an advantage but is not essential.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines.
• Good communication skills and a team-focused attitude.
• Willingness to learn, grow, and build a long-term career in construction.
• Previous construction work experience or internships would be beneficial.
