Mechanical Fitter / Machine Builder – Luton
Newstaff Employment is hiring a Mechanical Fitter / Machine Builder to join a growing engineering company in Luton. In this role, you will assemble, fit, and test bespoke machinery and production equipment while ensuring every project is completed to a high standard. Therefore, this is an excellent opportunity for an experienced mechanical engineer looking to work on varied projects within a professional and supportive environment.
Location: Luton
Salary: £15.00 – £25.00 per hour plus accrued holiday pay (depending on experience)
Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time

Key Responsibilities
- Assemble and build bespoke machinery from mechanical engineering drawings
- Fit and align mechanical components, including bearings, gearboxes, conveyors, and pneumatic systems
- Carry out machine testing and fault-finding where required
- Install and work with hydraulic and pneumatic equipment
- Ensure all work is completed safely and to a high standard
- Support the installation and commissioning of machinery when required
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment
- Work closely with colleagues to complete engineering projects on time
Essential Skills & Experience
- Previous experience as a Mechanical Fitter, Machine Builder, or in a similar engineering role
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical engineering drawings
- Experience using hand and power tools
- Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Positive attitude with a commitment to quality and safety
Desirable Skills
- Experience working with automated machinery or special-purpose machinery
- Basic knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems
- Forklift, IPAF, or overhead crane certification would be advantageous but is not essential
