Newstaff Employment is currently recruiting experienced HGV Class 1 Drivers for long-distance driving and trunking work based in Luton, Bedfordshire. This HGV Class 1 (C+E) driving role involves nationwide deliveries, long-distance haulage, and transporting commercial goods safely across the UK. You will operate articulated HGV vehicles, secure loads using ratchet straps, complete vehicle safety checks, and follow UK Drivers’ Hours and tachograph regulations. Ongoing driving work and regular shifts are available for reliable and professional Class 1 drivers.

Salary: £18.00–£19.00 per hour

Key Responsibilities

• Drive HGV Class 1 (C+E) vehicles safely and professionally.
• Complete long-distance trunking routes across the UK.
• Transport commercial goods between designated locations.
• Complete deliveries safely and within agreed schedules.
• Secure loads correctly using ratchet straps.
• Check load security before starting each journey.
• Follow planned routes and delivery instructions.
• Carry out daily vehicle safety inspections.
• Report vehicle defects or maintenance issues promptly.
• Complete delivery paperwork accurately.
• Maintain accurate tachograph and driver records.
• Follow UK Drivers’ Hours and Working Time regulations.
• Comply with road traffic and transport legislation.
• Communicate professionally with transport teams and customers.
• Follow company health and safety procedures.

Essential Skills & Experience

• You hold a valid HGV Class 1 (Category C+E) driving licence.
• You hold a valid Driver CPC.
• You hold a valid Digital Tachograph Card.
• You have previous HGV Class 1 driving experience.
• You have a good understanding of long-distance HGV driving.
• You understand UK Drivers’ Hours and tachograph regulations.
• You have experience securing loads using ratchet straps.
• You understand safe loading and load restraint procedures.
• You have a professional and safety-focused approach to driving.
• You can complete daily vehicle safety checks.
• You can follow delivery routes and schedules accurately.
• You are reliable, punctual, and hardworking.
• You have good communication skills.
• You can work independently throughout the day.
• You are comfortable completing long-distance driving routes.
